Loaner Deck Policy

ROCHESTER ROYALS Community Chest Policy

Overview

In an effort to grow the local Eternal Magic the Gathering scene and ease entry to our community, Rochester Royals has an inventory of sanctioned Legacy decks available to be loaned out to community members. Rochester Royals maintains an inventory of Loaner Decks consisting of decks from community members and the organization. In addition to accepting full deck loans we also accept individual card loans. Decks are to be requested in advance for any local event. Rochester Royals will collect a valid form of identification to ensure security and accountability for all loaned and owned property.

Card Inventory

Rochester Royals will seek to acquire and maintain a collection of Magic: The Gathering cards for the explicit purpose of constructing tournament legal decks for the Legacy format.

Acquisition

Community Lending

Rochester Royals accepts loans from community members. Loans can take the form of:

  • Full Decks
  • Partial Decks
  • Card singles

Rochester Royals does not own any property loaned to it, ownership still belongs to the lender. Fully and Partially loaned decks will have deck boxes labeled and loaned singles will be labeled on the back of inner sleeves to indicate ownership. Additionally, loaned Card singles will be entered into the community Moxfield collection in a binder created explicitly for the loaner. An unlisted link will be provided to the loaner, so they may track what has been lent. For Full Deck loans please provide a deck box and all of its contents double sleeves. For Partial Deck loans we ask for the cost of sleeves (inner and outer) to be covered by the loaner if possible.

Community members can request their property be returned at any time. Rochester Royals will return loaned property as quickly as possible but asks for understanding based on life circumstances. Please keep a record of any property that has been lent to ensure ease of return. The Royals will do our best to return your cards in the condition they were received

Community Donations

Rochester Royals accepts donations from community members. Donations are any property that has been gifted for permanent use in the Rochester Royals card inventory. Donated property must be an official Wizards of the Coast product and must be “sleeve playable” (must be able to pass a deck check). Donations can be submitted with or without inner sleeves.

Purchasing

Rochester Royals may be interested in purchasing Legacy staples from the community to expand our card inventory. Rochester Royals will offer a fair rate on cards being offered for sale and is willing to negotiate. A wish-list of cards that we are looking for will be available

If you are interested in loaning, donating, or selling please reach out to a community member with the @WarChest Discord role to start the process.

Maintenance

All cards used by Rochester Royals are double sleeved with a perfect fit inner sleeve (or equivalent) and a standard sleeve (GameGenic Prime Black).

Loaned Decks/Cards Liability

Rochester Royals accepts no liability for the deck if it is stolen, misplaced, or damaged. The utmost care will be taken to prevent any of the aforementioned situations from occurring.

Loan Timelines

Maintaining and protecting a living card pool can be hard enough for an individual. When it becomes a matrix of matching individuals to portions of the whole it evolves into a whole different experience. It takes time to audit, update, and validate the cards in a deck and the owner of those cards when loaned because we are using software to track these cards and maintain our list of decks and forms. To this end, we ask that if you are lending cards to be used by the community, only lend cards that you aren’t seeking to use in the near future. We’d like to measure the use of your cards in months or more rather than weeks. This will reduce the frequency of decks being changed which allows for a more stable lending pool of decks and reduces the strain on community members trying to maintain the war chest.
